RECLAIMED BEAMS
Rustic antique beams are reclaimed from old barns and other buildings ranging from 100-150 years old. Most of our beams will come with an antique honey brown patina and will have mortise pockets and peg holes.
Reclaimed beams come either hand hewn or rough sawn. Hand hewn beams were hand shaped with a adze, hatchet or axe, and you can see the chop marks. Whereas, rough sawn beams were shaped with a saw, and will show circular or band saw marks.
Many of our clients use our reclaimed beams to add decorative touches throughout the home or space, or even as a beautiful mantel over a fireplace.
Reclaimed beams come fairly square, anywhere from 4”x 4” to 12”x 12”. These sizes are approximate and will vary from beam to beam. As an example, a beam could be classified as 6”x 6”, but actually be 5 ¾”x 6 ¼”. They also range in lengths from 8’-18’ or longer.
